The DOs-And-DON'Ts of Social Media

Something that I have been noticing more and more since the start of this blog is the way organizations and businesses brand themselves. By creating my blog, I have created a brand for myself and now it becomes crucial as I continue to keep this blog running that I maintain a cross-platform presence by utilizing certain aspects of social media. Below is an assignment that I completed for my Social Media Strategies class. We were asked to review a company or organization’s social media and examine how they use their platforms. I hope my work sheds light on the dos-and-don'ts of social media, and could be applied to you. I also hope that this will inspire you to checkout your local LGBT center if it applies to you! Be an ally. Happy Pride Month!
An organization who I would love to work with one day is the The Los Angeles LGBT Center. The Los Angeles LGBT Center maintains a cross-platform presence by staying true to their rainbow/pride color scheme and applying the same mission statement or biography to each platform. They also advertise particularly positive announcements such as events, programs and announcements happening through their organization. Some things they execute very well on their facebook page include their updated calendar. I like how their organization has so many events happening that viewers cannot miss. They also share all media from their other platforms here, making this a hub for all content.
Something I think needs improvement would have to be that there is a lack of content on the center itself. Their social media platforms are covered with news on the events taking place at or through the center, but not much on the building as a structure. The Los Angeles LGBT Center just went under a remodel which would make for new and exciting content about the organizations headquarters. The posts found on the page include lots of shared content, but lacks original posts. I think the organization should work to release more original content because their page begins to feel a little too much like a news page. Lastly, I think their mission statement could be stronger or rather longer. I am assuming that they kept it to one sentence so it could be used across all of their platforms, but lacks the depth of the work this amazing center does for the LGBT community.
Thank you for reading my SEVENTH post! Until next time…
